A travel club is a paid membership that gives you member-only rates on resorts, hotels, cruises, flights, rental cars, theme parks and tours. You pay dues to the club instead of buying a share of a property, then book trips across its network at member pricing whenever you want to travel.
Member travelYou use the membership when you travel and choose the destination each time.
Most people book travel one of two ways: they pay the public price on a booking site, or they buy a timeshare and pay for the same week, plus fees, for years. A travel club is a third option. It works more like a warehouse club for vacations: you pay to join, and in return you get member pricing across hotels, resorts, cruises and more.
Here is how travel clubs work, what they include, how they differ from timeshares and vacation clubs, and the questions to ask before you join one.
A travel club is a membership program for travel. The club negotiates rates with resorts, hotels, cruise lines, car rental companies and tour operators, then offers those rates only to members. You pay the club a membership fee, often called dues, and you get access to its booking portal and its member prices.
The important word is access. A travel club does not sell you a week at one resort, and you do not own anything. You use the membership when you travel and choose the destination each time.
"Travel club" is a broad term. Clubs usually fall into one of these groups:
Member rates on stays, cruises, flights, rental cars, theme parks and tours.

See the offerBenefits vary by club, so always read the list before you join. A World Sky Travel Club membership includes member rates on all five parts of a trip, booked in one place, for two adults or the whole family.
You can see real examples on the World Sky sample trips: four days all-inclusive in Puerto Plata, a five-day Caribbean or Mexico cruise, three nights in Punta Cana, Cancun or Los Cabos, and more. For the full list of what members can book, see Your Access.
These three get mixed up all the time, and the difference matters because it decides what you pay each year. The short version: a timeshare is something you own, a vacation club usually sells you points, and a travel club is a membership.
| Travel club | Timeshare | Points vacation club | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What you buy | A membership | The right to use a property for a set time each year | Points you spend on stays |
| Where you can go | Across the club's full network | Your home resort, or an exchange if available | The club's own resorts |
| Yearly fees | Membership dues (World Sky: fixed monthly dues) | Maintenance fees, which usually rise over time, plus possible special assessments | Yearly dues or maintenance fees, set by the club |
| Flights, cars, cruises | Usually included at member rates | Usually not included | Sometimes, through add-on programs |
| Flexibility | Pick a new destination every trip | Tied to set weeks or seasons | Tied to point availability |
Timeshare owners usually pay maintenance fees every year, whether or not they travel, and the fees often go up over time. Some owners also get special assessments for big repairs. The Federal Trade Commission's guide, Timeshares, Vacation Clubs, and Related Scams, recommends you understand every fee before you commit to a timeshare or a vacation club.
"Membership is the whole advantage. Your dues stay fixed and your access does not shrink."
World Sky Travel Club
A travel club is usually worth it if you travel at least once or twice a year and book more than just a hotel room. The savings add up across flights, cars and cruises. It is usually not worth it if you rarely travel, because you pay dues either way.
Online, the main complaints about travel clubs are about hidden fees, hard cancellations, and prices you cannot compare. So check those three things first. Ask these questions before you sign up for any club:
