Many Tulum all inclusive resorts sit along the coast north of town or in the jungle nearby, because Tulum's own beach road is lined mostly with small boutique hotels. Puerto Morelos, about half an hour south of Cancun's airport, is the calmer, closer pick. World Sky members book both, plus flights and cars, at member rates.

Tulum has a reputation: jungle, cenotes, cliff-top ruins and a beach road of small, candle-lit hotels. Travelers searching for a Tulum all inclusive resort often find that the picture and the booking page do not match.
That is not a reason to skip it. It just means you should know where the resorts actually are, what "all inclusive" covers here, and when a quieter town like Puerto Morelos fits better. This guide covers both, plus how World Sky Travel Club members book the trip at member rates.
Mostly boutique hotels and beach clubs, with few true all inclusives.

Mexico guide"Tulum" on a booking site can describe four different settings. The difference shows up in your transfer time, your beach, and how often you need a taxi.
The coast south of the ruins, lined mostly with boutique hotels and beach clubs. Beautiful, but few true all inclusives.
Inland from the beach, with local restaurants, shops and nightlife. Hotels here are usually room-only.
The shoreline between Tulum and Playa del Carmen, where many larger all inclusive resorts sit on their own beaches.
Resorts set back among the trees, often near cenotes. Peaceful, but the beach may be a drive away.
So the first question is simple: do you want to walk out of your room onto the sand? If yes, filter for beachfront and confirm it on a map. If you care more about cenotes, quiet and trees, a jungle setting can be a better fit.
Rankings change every season, so skip the "top 10" lists and ask each resort the same questions:
Adults-only resorts suit couples, honeymoons and friends who want quiet pools and a slower pace. They are common along this stretch of coast. Ask the minimum age and whether the resort shares a beach or amenities with a family property next door.
For families, look for kids clubs (and their age range), shallow pools, rooms that sleep four, and a short walk to calm water. Families traveling with young kids often prefer the shorter drive from Cancun to Puerto Morelos, covered next.
Puerto Morelos sits on the coast between Cancun and Playa del Carmen, about half an hour south of Cancun International Airport. That short transfer is the first reason people pick it: you can land at lunchtime and be in the pool by mid-afternoon.
The second reason is the pace. The town itself is small, with a main square, a pier and its well-known leaning lighthouse. Most Puerto Morelos all inclusive resorts spread out along the beach north and south of town, so you get a quieter shoreline than Cancun's Hotel Zone with easy access to both Cancun and the Riviera Maya.
Just offshore is a national reef park, part of the Mesoamerican reef system, and snorkel tours leave from the town pier. Inland, a road known as the Route of the Cenotes leads to several swimming holes in the jungle.

Both towns share the same Caribbean weather pattern, so the timing advice is the same:
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. Most weeks pass without a storm, but check the National Hurricane Center before you travel and read the cancellation terms before you book. Seaweed (sargassum) can also reach Caribbean beaches in the warmer months, and it varies by year and by beach. For events, beaches and local news across the region, see Caribe Mexicano, the Mexican Caribbean tourism site.

Claim Your CertificateYes, but fewer than in Cancun. Tulum's beach road is lined mostly with small boutique hotels, so many Tulum all inclusive resorts sit along the coast north of town or in the jungle nearby. Check the distance to the beach and to town before you book.
For many travelers, yes. Puerto Morelos is about half an hour south of Cancun International Airport, so transfers are short, and it has a small-town feel with a national reef park just offshore. Tulum is farther south and better known for its ruins and cenotes.
December through April is usually the driest stretch and the busiest. Summer and early fall are hotter and wetter and fall inside the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to November 30. Late spring and November can be a good middle ground.
Most travelers use Cancun International Airport (CUN), about two hours by road from Tulum. Tulum International Airport (TQO) opened in December 2023 south of town and can shorten the transfer when flights fit your plans. For Puerto Morelos, Cancun is the closest airport.
